Breed Characteristics :
Short, deep body with 12-14 ribs ( compared to commercial breeds who have up to 16)
Head is rather small - ears are large, hanging forward at an older age
Ears of piglets are short and upright - swallow belly and some blondes have larger ears
Eyes are brown
Eyelashes, eyebrows, nose, claws, teats and all body openings are black
Tip of tail tassel is always black
Skin under fur is greyish/black - when housed inside- younger pigs have light bellies
Number of teats is 10-12 max
On lower edge of ear is a bright spot - called the 'Wellmann spot'
Bone structure can be fine but bones are very hard

There are Three distinct colors -- Swallowbelly ( black trimmed with tannisih underbelly) Blonde, and Red... there is an all Black mangalitsa but quite rare.
When you interbreed colors-- you will get "mixtures".Strawberry, Red Swallowbelly, and silver
