My Mangalitsa live outside 24-7 .. they all have shelter .. but don't always choose to use their huts. They will build cozy nests from hay - so it's nice to give them that option.
My pigs have pasture during warm months -- and are moved every few weeks to newly planted forage... but still get grains -- there is no such thing as grass fed pork
They don't love being lonely --
They grow slowly and should not be rushed into maturity.
Gilts should not be bred until 14 months
Gilt and Boar piglets should be separated early on as Boars can breed at 4 months
Mangalitsa are lard pigs -- so be prepared to have a carcass laden in back fat !!!! If you don't have a use for it and don't have a market for it -- that cuts into profits !!
